Green With Gold Glitter

Hello everyone! Here I wore Essence 54 'Trust In Fashion' from the old collection - a beautiful dark green shade. This shade is very difficult to photograph, it looks one was under sunlight, one way indoors. One coat is enough, though it will look a bit transparent, but 2 coats chip very easily. Without top coat it will last you a day and a half. Also, please note, you MUST wear base coat because this baby will dye your nails green. Yuck! The polish on my accent nail is also Essence, number 67, 'Make It Golden'. Come to think of it, this look would be great for st. Patrick's day, and it's so simple to do. Anyway, see you guys later, xoxo

Happy Birthday Surprise -- Winner ....

Thursday was my birthday.
My 45th birthday to be exact.

Thursday was not a good day for me ...

Don't get me wrong, its wasn't the fact that I turned 45,
I've earned my years and am proud of it.

however, today is much better.

Let me just say ....

Its Friday and all expectations and
disappointments of the week are over.

I purchased myself a very nice steak, french bread all ready to be popped in the oven, a very nice bottle of red wine and a teeny tiny individual sized cheese cake and I'm sitting here with my laptop in front of the television watching a show I get to enjoy in delicious quiet and solitude.

Life is good, especially now that my dinner is over,
two glasses of wine have been consumed and
I have a scrumptious piece of blue berry cheese cake to enjoy.

I also get to share the winner of  my
This and That Koin Catcher wallet.
That winner is:
Your quilt story only makes that quilt donation even more special. It is beautiful, and knowing it is going to a worthy cause makes it even more beautiful. Thank you for your story...and the wonderful show and tell of those amazing little wallets...love the fabrics you've chosen and the excellent skills you've used to make super projects! My chair is a rolling office chair...but my back still gets sore...with me, I think it is an age thing, giggle. So my trick is to get out of the chair a lot...go to the fridge, go to the cookie jar, etc. Thanks for the chance for such a generous giveaway!

Lesley, I adore you!  You give me a great excuse to make a trip or two to the sweets jar! Lesley should have received an email from me by now.  The birthday surprise will come with the wallet. .... sorry, no dollars ... perhaps a coin or two, but since its my birthday,  I'm sending you a surprise along with the wallet which I hope will tickle you as much as it does me in the sending.

I give my gratitude to each and everyone who visited and left a message.   You all encourage me through my day and wow, did you all leave wonderful  chair advice.  Stay tuned for the results of my chair shopping {grin}.

As for me, as I am sans-DDs this weekend, a girlfriend has invited me to travel to a few out of town quilt shops tomorrow and  I find myself looking forward to the day.  Perhaps I'll have some things to share upon my return ... if not, kudos to me for quilt shop hopping and not spending a dime ....

wait for it,

wait for it,

Yeah Right!!

 hahahahaha

Until next we visit, thank you and I wish you all happy!

A Quilt Redeemed & a small giveaway

I share with you today a quilt with a past ...
Some of you may recognize this beauty as
using her Bella line of fabric.

Back story on this quilt is that last fall I was given the amazing
opportunity (for me) to piece and quilt a new pattern with a new
line of fabric to be displayed at Fall Market.  To say the least, I
was over the moon ecstatic ... seriously.

I committed myself to the task, received the new pattern
and all of the necessary materials to make the quilt.

Oh, I so wanted to be worthy ...
silly I know .. but that is what I felt.
My work to be shown at MARKET! ...

Then my world fell in on itself...
Divorce aftermath, sick children, the part time job I
had then went seriously south, but I applied for and got
a new full time job, however the process itself took its toll,
over-committed myself on too many quilting projects
just so I can earn a bit more money to make ends meet,
then I got sick and to top it all off ... my sewing machine
dies in the middle of quilting what I wanted to be
perfection.  Yes, I wanted to seriously throw in
the towel ... in every aspect of life at that time.

Not complaining, just explaining ...
Reality of life hit and it hit hard.

Well, the quilt ... I did everything I could just to finish
and send this quilt off to ensure it arrived by market.
I so seriously stressed myself out over it I know I
contributed to making myself sicker.  What was worse,
I knew I was sending off what for me was not quality work
... hey I'm type A +++ ... it's even my blood type!

Well, long story short, the quilt didn't make it to market.
It was that sad ... by the time it made it to where it was going,
the binding had pulled in so many places and the quilting
I had to rip out left wholes ... well, you can imagine.
When I received the quilt back from a very nice, but
probably embarrassed designer,  I stuffed this quilt in the
deepest, darkest corner I could find and tried to forget about it.
Well, I couldn't and didn't forget about it.  It sat heavily on my mind.
So recently, when I heard my daughters' school was looking for
donations to auction off for a school fundraiser, this quilt came to mind.

I pulled this baby out of the corner, carefully pulled off all of the
binding, cut the quilt edges so it was square again,
pressed out the binding and re-sewed it on, very carefully
making sure I would make the designer proud ... or better yet
make myself proud as I'm the worst critic of myself.

I can proudly state now that this quilt has been redeemed and
will be donated for a good cause and I thank absolutely everyone that
helped from the beginning of the process to the happy ending that
the quilt and I have both come to.

Thank you!

On a fun note, my little two year old friend is learning the
important function of potty training at day care, so for
her mother, I made this laminated tote to carry her
clothes back and forth to preschool.

She liked it .... {smiles}

This weekend I also made myself a new wallet using

And, since I was already working with Bella,
I used Bella for the wallets also.

When I finished the wallet, I realized that since I attach my
wallet to my set of keys so I can "grab and go" if I have
to make a quick trip to the store, or I don't want to carry
my purse, I have my coin purse-wallet and keys in one spot.

I really have gotten hooked on using this method.
I can say I haven't lost my keys since I started doing this
{grin ... I probably just jinxed myself ... grin}

So, the second wallet I made, I modified the pattern,
just a smidgen ...

I added a driver's license window pocket to the
outside of the wallet and secured the pocket with a
tiny loop and button to ensure it doesn't fall out.

Yep, I'm set now ...
but now I have an extra wallet.

And I truly thought that one of my you,
my beloved followers, might enjoy using
the first wallet for yourself, or to give as a gift.

Here's the deal:
If you are one of my favorite peeps (a follower of my blog)
and you would like the chance to have this wallet mailed
to you ... can be in the US or International ...
please leave me one comment telling me you are a
Why-Knot-Kwilt follower, and answer me this:

What kind of chair do you use to sit in at your sewing machine?

Goofy question?  I know, but I have a bad back and more
often than not, it hurts a lot worse when I sit and sew, so
I am soon going to go chair shopping and I'd love to know
what most of you find comfortable.

Best of luck to you and I will random draw the
winner on Friday, April 26th.

No-reply bloggers, you know the drill, I hope, by now.
Put your email address in your comment or if you
are the randomly drawn winner, you can't be contacted
and another will be drawn to win.

Easy enough?  I hope so ... if you've read this far
you truly are appreciated and I thank you.

Until next time, I wish you well and happy,

April Showers Hop Day Eight is Great!!

Yeppers ... Day Eight is Great!
Not only is Wednesday, April 17th my day to share for the
April Showers Mug Rug Hop,
but it is also my youngest DD's 7th Birthday!!

Yay Me ... double time :)

Knowing you all have many wonderful stops to get to today, I will get right to business.

Here is my visual interpretation of "there would be no rainbows without a little rain":

Yes, I could have quilted it more, but i didn't want to cover up the background fabric and until I get an actual working sewing machine again, I didn't want to chance the FMQ work.  I think the second picture shows the "raindrops" better.  Besides, I like it and I'm keeping it.  I dare you to try and take it from me!!  And heck, first you gotta find me if you wanted it :) :)

I came up with this design after the first two failures didn't meet up with my brain's expectations.  Not wanting to waste the fabrics, I'm sure I'll re-invent their failures into something else besides the scrap heap they now exist in.  However, I'm happy with this beauty and it is now in my office cubie bringing me smiles and reminders at work, where more often than not, as many of you know, we sometimes forget there can be sunshine and happiness ... and quilting ... outside the work environment.  {{smiles}}
Don't get me wrong, I still really, really like my job, but sometimes my head gets in the wrong hemisphere and a little reminder that doesn't include calories or caffeine is good.
 {{Yes!  I did just say that!!  I want chocolate so badly right now, that reminder is for me!!! hahahaha}}

Please shower the raindrops of your kindness with my fellow posters today:

I give my sincere appreciation to Erin of Sew at Home Mummy and to Madame Samm for keeping us all inspired and in touch.  You ladies are marvelous!

And on a personal note:

I want to wish my Abbie a very happy 7th birthday!
I made this pillowcase this weekend while the DDs were away.
Doesn't every princess need a "happy birthday" pillow??

I love you sweet, forever and always!!
Gitchee, gitchee, goo!

Thank you to everyone who stopped by today!
I wish each of you every happiness and hope to see you again real soon!

Best wishes,

My Kind Soapbox ...

Okay ... my previous post got interrupted and I didn't get back
to write my "few words" ... My apologies, but I assure you,
you didn't miss out on anything brilliant ...
just my random thoughts I wanted to share.

Those of you who frequent my blog know the
value I put on kind words and deeds.

Well, this post in a way has to do with kindness.

I've got a few projects going on that have required me to do
some online shopping ... okay, so twist my proverbial arm ...
the online shopping for fabric was WORK!!  trust me ...

 HAHAHAHA....

no seriously, I frequented many shops over the past
week and ended up making purchases from several.

One of those sites happened to be from my quilty-crush
faves that I have watched and visited and adored for a
years as they grew bigger, and seemingly more
"famous" in the world that is quilt fabric.

A few other searches netted me my required material
matches, and the last shop I purchased at was for a
couple of items I needed for another project.

Yes, yes, I will certainly be sharing the projects
as I get them completed ...
ya all know I'm a show off!!
 {chuckle}

Well ... here's where I need to hop up
on my box of soap about poor customer service and
give kudos for excellent customer service.

Quilty-crush purchase was made, and yes, I've purchased
many, many, many items from them previously.  I've usually
gotten very good service.  Granted, it's been a while as my
situation has changed a bit and I've been a bit choosier about
my purchases.  However, I saw this fabric that would complete
my project and when to the online store, added the item to
my cart, and bonus ... added another bit of yardage that
would finish my project to perfection.

All was fine, so I thought.  The next day, I receive the standard
notification that "my order was filled, completed and shipped."
 Awesome!
Oh yea-ah ...
got me some quilty-crush fabric coming ...
Sweet! :)

Not a minute later I receive an email from my Paypal
account advising me of a refund from the store
due to one item being out of stock ...

Goodness.  Okay, the store didn't say anything
in their email, so I immediately ... immediately ...
emailed them and said something to the tune of
"hey, I received this notice, if you are in fact out,
could you please substitute the fabric ..."
You know those emails.  The reply I got:

"Your item has already been shipped.
Thank you for your order."

Huh.

I emailed them back, apologized for the trouble
and wished them a wonderful day. .... Nothing.

So package arrives in the mail a few days later.
Just the envelope ... and the fabric.
No invoice, no note, no thank you for your purchase, nothing.
Just the fabric.
Strange, especially from this shop which has
always been pleasant in the past.

Me being me, I mulled this over for a day or two
and decided to politely write a concerned email to the shop,
wishing them all well, explaining my perplexed reaction
 and disappointment.  Their response ...

"I apologize for our lack of great customer service.
Sometimes we fall short of others expectations
 and we don't intend to."

crickets chirping ...

Okay, don't get me wrong, but this struck me as a little off ...
as if I was expecting too much ....
This response was from the same person that sent
me the original email.  Tell me if I'm so off the mark here
that this was a little impersonal, or if this is just what I should expect
 from successful businesses these days.
Needless to say, my quilty-crush felt smooshed and,
in fact has been added as fertilizer for the garden of my soul.
(not overly-dramatic ... I had a SERIUOS quilty-crush!!)

Not just by this experience, but by a very many other
little incidences from these same fabric designers.

On the other hand, I mentioned I also shopped at several
other online shops, all of which took the time to at least add a
hand written "thank you" at the bottom of the invoice.
Not much, but a nice personal touch.
One shop in particular deserves kudos
for providing the exact opposite experience:

Ms. Amy Bradley ...
 the one and only ...

provided me over the top customer service!

Thank you Amy Bradley!!

Whoever filled my order was so very nice
to place a thank you card in my package.
And I wasn't even a frequent flier of her shop,
nor a big time contributing commenter on her blog.

(And NO, I did not use Madame Samm's name!)

That "simple" extra was such a stark contrast
to my earlier experience with said quilty-crush shop.

Please be aware, I'm not asking for extras, I'm not asking for
freebies, I'm asking for a simple acknowledgement that I'm
spending my very hard earned money ... just as everyone's
money is these days ... to purchase something someone
has to offer by the plain and simple kindness of a nice word,
or perhaps a nice exchange of words.

I am the first to admit I am NO Mother Teresa wannabe,
but dang it all ... we can all be kind and share kindness as
it costs us nothing and gives so much.

This almost reads like ...
Can't we all just get along???
No really, can't we??
Doesn't it?
{giggle}

Please know, I spoke of these experiences to no one,
but I really felt the need to put out there in blogihood
that kindnesses go so very far.

Okay ... I'll be stepping off my towering soap box now
and apologize for the rant, but seriously, I know so many
swing through blogs, just as I do, and so very often anymore
I don't find as much time to leave as many comments on the
blogs that I wish I could, but please know, when I do,
I mean my comments sincerely, respectfully, and on top of it all,
kindly.  We all work so hard at everything we do in every
aspect of our lives that every kindness written or given is
such a balm to the soul  ...
if it is to mine, it must be to someone else.

Bless you and again, thank you for stopping by today.

P.S.  All photos were "borrowed" from google.com image search
